Dive Data Recorder

“Sensus Ultra” is ReefNet’s third-generation data logging instrument. Sensus Ultra is depth-activated like a dive computer but does not have a visual display—instead it silently records depth and temperature profiles, much like an aircraft’s flight data recorder. Stored data may be retrieved with a single mouse click, typically in less than 10 seconds. “The entire system is designed with emphasis on simplicity and ease-of-use,” says ReefNet’s Kris Wilk.

Sensus Ultra also distinguishes itself from dive computers in terms of size and capacity: the data recording unit is about the size of a matchbox (1” x 1.3” x 1.75”), yet it stores 1500 hours of dive data without overflowing. Furthermore, it resolves depth and temperature to unrivaled precision: 0.5 inches and 0.01 degrees C, respectively. “To put it in perspective,” says Wilk, “that’s 20-100 times better than most dive computers.”

A multitude of configuration options allow the recording behavior of Sensus Ultra to be tailored to an individual diver’s habits. Adjustable parameters include sampling interval, activation depth, dive end delay, and more. Another unique feature is a dedicated storage space where arbitrary user data such as certification or medical information may be stored. This data can be retrieved on any PC/Mac using ReefNet’s free Sensus Manager software.

ReefNet has been engineering high-tech products for divers, scientists and marine enthusiasts since 1994. Although best known for its Sensus dive data recorders, ReefNet also publishes interactive marine life field guides and manufactures dive accessories including communication devices and optical components.
